HELP

Browse:

Publication lists of faculties, institutes/departments or authors can be required with the Browse option.

Search:

Besides the simple search there is an advanced search screen, in which search queries can be limited to certain fields, document types or dates.

Full text:

The IMISCOE Online Library contains mostly references to publications. In the advanced search screen an option is given to Show records with full text only. In time the full text of the publications will be added to the references.

Searching for words:

You can search on an exact word or a phrase of words. For instance 'research and policy' in one search box will give the text phrase 'research and policy'. To find records with both research and policy you type in the first box research, choose 'and', and type in the second box policy.

Punctuation:

All punctuations marks entered in a search box are ignored and treated as spaces.

Case sensitive:

There is no difference in the search process between capital letter or lower case letter.

Wildcards:

To search variations and the plural of a word, include an asterisk * at the end of the word. For example, war*, will look for wars, warrior, warm and so forth.

Choose collections:

The IMISCOE Online Library contains articles, preprints, books, chapters, book reviews, reports, annotations, inaugural lectures and dissertations.

Short and long displays:

You can click on the title in the short display to get a detailed display with all the fields and also functions like links to the full text of the publication, and UvA-linker services.

Bookbag:

Records can be saved with the 'add to bookbag' function given in the long display. Your bookbag will stay for you for 2 hours if you don't close the browser. The bookbag holdings can be viewed with the 'Bookbag' option in the advanced search screen or the search results screen.

Email or download:

You may save records in the bookbag and either email them to yourself or download them. In the bookbag holding self the functions email and download are given.

Author:

Searching for authors can be done by "lastname, initial(s).prefix' without spaces, with periods between initials.
For Example, for documents by prof. Johan van Benthem, use the search string 'Benthem,j' (which may also find another author J.J. Benthem, if there is one) or 'Benthem,j.f.a.k.van' if you know the full name.

Linking:

To link to a record or a list of publications URL's are given.
